More exciting news for Cove CC Members!

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the signing of Dubs Wood as our new First Team Captain. Dubs will join us as both Player & Coach and will lead our First XI for 2025 and beyond. Despite his youth, Dubs brings a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching cricket. A talented left-hand top-order batter and right-arm off-spinner, he boasts an impressive pedigree. Having played for the Hampshire Academy, Dubs made his Hampshire 2nd XI debut in 2021 and captained throughout his age group career. He has also represented Essex 2nd XI (2022) and Berkshire, as well as playing Premier League cricket.

To further develop his skills, Dubs travelled the world to play cricket in Pakistan, India, Australia and South Africa, working with mentors like Darren Sammy and Abdul Razzaq to enhance his knowledge.

As a level 2 Qualified coach, Dubs brings considerable coaching expertise. He has worked extensively with the Julian Wood Cricket Academy , leading training camps in the USA, Canada and Australia. Most recently, he served as a coaching assistant for the Bangla Tigers in the ZimAfro T10 franchise league. He also provides 1-1 coaching and group sessions for Adults and Juniors.

We are excited about the fresh ideas and expertise Dubs will bring to Cove CC. He will play a pivotal role in the development of both our Senior and Junior squads and we are confident he will lead our First XI in an exciting new era of success.

Lets extend a warm Cove Cricket Club welcome to Dubs and give him our full support as he settles into his new role.

Exciting news for Cove Cricket Club

I am very pleased to announce that Lara Gear has accepted the role of Ladies 1st team captain.

Most of you will already know Lara. For those who don’t, Lara has played at Cove for many years and is an experienced player in the squad, despite her young age. She has played in both girls and open age group cricket, been a part of our new performance squad ,playing senior men’s 2nd team cricket as well as her obvious contribution to the ladies 1st team. She has also represented Hampshire at u18s. Lara is also a qualified coach who has committed to running our girls u13’s team for the 2025 season

Lara, to me, is the ideal choice to lead the ladies squad into next season and indeed many seasons to come.

Like any position within the club, this will require everyone’s support and encouragement to help Lara with her journey into Captaincy.

I’m personally committed to doing that, as is the cricket committee and the exec.

I look forward to seeing where Lara can take this young squad through 2025 and beyond.

Good luck Lara, we wish you all the luck for the coming season.

Regards, Nick Randall

We hope you enjoyed the evening and the display. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Farnborough Rotary Clubs support for supply Equipment to help us on the Evening and supporting the BBQ.

And finally to all our wonderful volunteers across all the sections of our club, Senior and Junior Cricket Members, Social Members and Parents, this would not have been possible without you all and the team effort working together to ensure our community had a good Bonfire Night Evening.

Sept 2024

Thank you Kerry, Nick, Nicole, Shiv, Sam, Andy and everyone else involved in sorting the Club Dinner last night.
It was nice we had all sides of the club both cricket and socially,  young and older members as well.
The venue and food was excellent and your hardwork proved that these type of events can work.  People showed that by supporting it and being there and the numbers attending.
Congratulations to all the Award winners and congratulations to the Club on another successful event in it’s name.

On Saturday 20th July the MCC Foundation National Finals took place at the home of cricket, Lords.

Our very own Niamh representing the Guildford MCC Hub had the experience of a lifetime, having the opportunity to live out everyone’s dreams of sitting in the home dressing room, walking down through the long room and onto the ground through the white gate, following in the steps of cricket legends.

Niamh, throughout the early parts of the season, worked exceptionally hard to get into the competition squad. Solid performances gave her the opportunity to represent Guildford Girls in the MCC Foundation Final.

In front of over 1000 spectators the Guildford Girls took on the Bradford Girls to decide who would be crowned the MCC Foundation National Champions, with Guildford running out winners by 4 wickets.

Niamh was at the wicket at the end to see the game home with the bat and celebrate with her team and her family.

This is a celebration of Niamh’s cricketing journey so far and hopefully inspiration for others, a journey that started at U9s at Cove. She developed a love for the game and a determination to improve year on year.

Now Niamh is the first female cricketer from Cove CC to play at Lords, which is an amazing achievement.

We are very proud of Niamh’s achievements. She has worked hard, practiced all year round to develop her skills, but with all sports there is always ups and downs and it’s how you turn the negatives into a positive that enable you to achieve success, which is a real strength of Niamh’s.

MCC Foundation is a wonderful national program and to find out more go to https://www.lords.org/mcc/mcc-foundation, where you can also watch the stream of the game to see Niamh in action.

Congratulations Niamh from everyone at Cove CC – MCC Foundation National Champion – Girls U16 2024!

Feb 2024

Cove Cricket Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Chairman, Life Member and all-round club stalwart William Geoffrey Owen (Geoff) on 5th February 2024.

Geoff was a true gentleman, always smiling and had time for every single person who walked through the doors of Cove Cricket Club.

During his playing days, Geoff played on Saturdays, Sundays and on every club tour possible. He loved the game for all it brings, competitiveness, fun and friendship. In his later years, Geoff always spoke fondly of his time in the third team slip cordon with Frank and Tony, and whilst it was great fun, he was never sure he caught many!

Geoff was a central figure of the Friday night scene, and everyone from that era will remember him and his crew, propping up the bar until all hours, drinking his favourite brandy. He was a wonderful people person and related so well to everyone across the generations.

Geoff did so many wonderful things for the club, including leading the executive committee as Chairman during the refurbishment of the pavilion, after the infamous ’87 hurricane.

Geoff will be sorely missed by everyone at the club and will be remembered by many players due to his loud shouts of ‘Come on Cove!’ when he felt the teams needed a bit of a lift.

Our thoughts and love go out to Joan, Richie, Heb, Karen and all the family at this difficult time.

Details of Geoff’s funeral will follow once known.
