The 2010 season is nearly upon us and I thought it would be a good idea to bring members up to speed on what s been happening over the winter, what s coming up etc. I would like this newsletter to be issued quarterly and welcome contributions from all members. Especially any gossip (without naming names!!!) Also, if anyone would like to offer themselves up to be the editor going forward, please give me a shout. It s the last day of February, it hasn t stopped raining for a week and the first game is in about 6 weeks time.
COMMITTEE NEWS
At the AGM, the new committee was elected and are going about the business of running the Club. Committee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month.
SENIOR CRICKET NEWS (TROY TOMSETT)
Nets are now in full swing at Collingwood College on Sunday mornings at 10.30am. Fitness sessions are running on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm in the build up to the new season. All welcome! Tuesdays we will be
local and Thursdays we will be mixing it up a bit! We are a strong club but the only way we will be able to be a step ahead of the opposition is if we can have the same levels of enthusiasm, commitment and skill levels during the last over as during the first. We will try and make it fun, but be prepared to work hard and have kit available for both indoors and outdoors as you will not know until we meet.
Please let captains know as early as possible if you have holidays or whatever booked in the season.

LADIES COMMITTEE (PAT DAVIS)
The Ladies committee held it s AGM on the 21st February and the same committee will remain in place for 2010. During Spring, a new carpet will be laid in the Club. The current one has been down for over 10 years now and is showing it s age. With the increasing number of hirings of the Club, it is important that we provide our customers with a comfortable and warming environment to get them to keep coming back and spending money with us.
COLTS REPORT (PAUL LYNCH)
The winter is a busy time for the colt s section, the winter training program starting back in October and will continue through until the end of March. EPS and Development squads completed an intense training program prior to Christmas and a number of those players developed their skills considerably during this period. We have put in place a comprehensive youth development structure over the winter months with a focus on coaching excellence. We have a good mixture of coaches at Cove and it s important we all work as a team to improve the overall playing standards within the club. Coaching qualification is a key enabler of our strategy but experience is just as important. So a major focus for 2010 is to provide a forum for our experienced coaches to work with a new and less experienced coach to share that knowledge. Andrew Carter, Jordan Finney and Sophie Lynch have passed their ECB coaching assistance course this winter. We plan to run a parent helper day very soon for those interested in helping with the teams or even to gain some knowledge to help their own son or daughter. Both the Under 13 and Under 15a teams are undefeated in their winter indoor leagues and the other teams have only lost the odd game.
GROUND REPORT (NICK RANDALL)
I am pleased to report that Nick Randall, assisted by Matt Short, will be our groundsman for the 2010 season. This year we have started on a high, by purchasing a second hand fairway mower from North Hants Golf Club at a bargain price. This is a lighter machine than the tractor and gangs and will enable us to cut the outfield in all weathers without worrying about leaving ruts. It will also allow us to achieve a nice striped cut. I would like to thank Steve Lynch and all his helpers for all their work last year and hope they will continue to help out where possible. Other things that we have started to arrange are things like a regular maintenance schedule of all the machinery, to keep everything running smoothly. Any voluntary help will be greatly appreciated and help immensely with keeping the grounds looking great.
FINANCES (ALAN HUMPHRIES)
As ever, money is tight. CCC, unlike some other local clubs, is unfortunately not blessed with many rich benefactors. We do however have a club of which all the members should be proud. Excellent facilities, combined with a great atmosphere and a sense of pulling together make CCC a great place to socialise, as well as to play and watch cricket. We are trying to raise money from all available sources. Shield Security Services have once again continued their sponsorship of the Club to the tune of £1,000 for the 2010 season. In return, we are obliged to wear shirts bearing their logo for all Saturday games on the main ground and not to wear shirts bearing logo s other than Shield s for all other Saturday cricket. Please make sure you do! I have co-opted Roy Finney on to the committee with a simple remit to go and get the Club some money. We all buy stuff - would the company or person you are buying off like to advertise at the Club? At £250 for 1 year, or £450 for 2, inclusive of the making of the advertising board, this is a very cheap and effective way of companies advertising their services. Any members who know of any potential buyers, please contact Roy so that he can go and close the deal.
