Colts raise small fortune in freezing net marathon!

You may remember that on a cold Friday afternoon in mid-March the Colts Section coaches undertook a 24hr net marathon that was then followed on the Saturday afternoon by a sponsored walk. We are very pleased to inform you that thanks to everyone's efforts a total in excess of £1000 has been raised.

It was a great team effort from the coaches, especially those that braved the freezing temperatures in the early hours of Saturday morning. (Netting outdoors at 3am under floodlights with the temperature at -6 degrees was a memorable, if not totally pleasurable, experience). The event got off to an inauspicious start with Gary Thorogood ending up on his backside after facing the first ball and Jordan Finney fusing the floodlights by driving over the extension lead. Order was soon restored and Scooby Doo looked a quality bat! The midnight MacDonalds feast was very welcome, however, by general consensus the highlight was provided by Mr Peter Merrifield in the form of Bacon Butties for breakfast. By Saturday lunchtime the sun was out and so were the shorts and bowling machine to see us through the final hours. The sponsored walk then commenced in bright sunshine and it was great to see both young and “not so young” alike completing so many laps of the boundary. The walk was accompanied by a cake sale and judging by the quality of cakes donated by the colts parents, the provision of teas for future senior teams looks to be in good hands.

Thanks must go to all the colts, parents, ladies team and senior club players who turned up to bowl at all hours and those who took part in the walk. And also to local firm “Curtains Galore” for sponsoring Mr Merrifield and his breakfast refreshments.
